December 7, 1941 Japan attached Pearl Harbor, starting the US going into World War II. If you are lucky enough to have a family member or friends of the family, that are veterans, talk to them about that day. What where they doing, how they felt, and what they did. Then go and talk to the women of that time period, who became Rosie the Riveters. Others who rolled bandages for the Red Cross, knitted socks for the troops, sold war bonds, and collected items needed for the war front. Learn how to cook with ration stamps. Yes you where limited to how much you could buy. Food was needed to feed the military. When my parents where getting married, people gave ration stamp as wedding gifts, so they could have a wedding. My mom's wedding dress was made from my Dad parachute, and her Dad (my Grandfather) was a tailor and was the one who made it History was made by your family and friends. We are losing are Veteran fast, so take some time today to find out about our history makers. If someone in your family is the collector of the family history, they still might have a ration book, then look for some old recipes, good food made with very little sugar. This is the greatest generation, they lived during the Depression of the 30's, fought for our freedom in the 40's, returned to work, and raised their families in the 50's and 60's. We could learn so much from them, the way the lived, the faith they had, and how to have a good time with very little. It was all about family, and we need to get that back.
Please honor are Veterans everyday of the year!

Very nice write up Rose. I enjoyed reading and was humbled by it. I try to watch all the movies about Pearl Harbor, and it really makes me cry to see enactments of what happened, knowing that it must have been much more tragic than depicted. Thank you:) Carol
