Question - What does handmade mean to you?

My question to you and please let me know your feeling on this, what does handmade mean to you?  Is it someone working at the kitchen table, garage, basement.  Spending hour making something, and then trying to sell it.  Or is handmade in China ok with you!!!!  When someone lists an item or say that it is handmade, I picture them making it, and not someone in China making it.  Yesterday while surfing the web I came across a site that was listed as handmade, and then I found something, and I know deep deep in my heart this was made in China.  How do I know?  I'm a basket weaver and can spot a basket made in China a mile away.  Yes all baskets along with glass blowing are made by the artist, and not a machine.  So yes the basket is handmade, but not in the USA.  I spend hours working on a basket, and do not get paid for my time.  I just make a little extra money from it.  I have lost all faith in this person.  To me buying a basket from China and adding some dry flowers is not handmade, and should not be advertised has such! Please check with the artist how they make their product, how long they spend working on it, and just some general questions.  Someone who has made something can and will answer all questions on it.  Please tell me how you feel on this question!!!!!!!    Thank you for helping me clear up this mess in my mind.

Fat Tuesday and it is Paczki day in Michgian

It is Fat Tuesday, and here in SE Michigan we celebrate with Paczki  (Punch-key) a Polish Tradition.  Germans call them Berliners and in Austria they are called Krapfen.  What is a Paczki - jelly filled dough balls  covered with several types of sugar or glaze.  Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday the start of Lent and fasting for the next 40 days.  How do you enjoy Fat Tuesday?  Please let me know!  Yes I still get my milk in glass bottles.  I live very close to Calder's Dairy Farm, and they put their milk in old fashion glass bottles.  We need to support our local cows.

Ground Hog Day

Happy Ground Hog Day!  Yes we are having six more weeks of winter.  Let's hope they are short, and Phil is wrong!  The bright side we have six more weeks to clean and organize the insides of our home.  Then we can go outside and do some yard work!  So for the next six weeks, we can clean more closets, cupboards, plan our gardens, and look for some new canning recipes.  Also this is the time to look over your canning equipment and see what needs to be replaced.  Some of the stores around here sell canning lids all year round, so this is a wonderful time to stock up.  Does your lawn and garden equipment need some work, then take them in before everyone else does.  Lots to do and six week is way to short in someways!  Well we are on the down side of winter, the days are getting longer, and spring will be here!!!! YEA!!!!!!!!!!
