Abe Lincoln

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich...strengthen the weak by weakening the strong...bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift...lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down...build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence...help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." -Abraham Lincoln

Dirtroad Team with Johnnie Belinda and Sweetgrass Valley

Please join me in a wonderful visit to the shops I have featured today.  Each an amazing artist and works in a different art form.  The beauty of the Dirtroad Team is we all live in small towns and are open to very different forms of art.  The first shop is Johnnie Belinda, who loves to paint.  Johnnie can paint anything and everything from abstract to shabby chic.  She has even painted using lipstick!  Her love of color comes out in her work.  From small to large you will find something to love.  Johnnie has been busy filling her shop with blue birds for spring.

The next shop is Sweetgrass Valley where Debbie makes chokers and other art. Debbie comes from a long line of artists who not only taught her art, but the love of nature. Debbie only uses handmade items in her work and no plastic items are added to her work. Using hand cut leather, bone or horn hair pipe beads each piece becomes a one of kind work of art. Check out her Sweetgrass baskets, she made one for me and I just love it. The wonderful smell coming from this basket takes you outside even on those cold winter days. Enjoy your visit with both Johnnie and Debbie today If you are on Etsy and live in a small town, please come and join us. We love small town life and all forms of art. What is it Wednesday

I love old things.  A couple of years ago I started What is it Wednesday.   So for about a year I would post something old, or new to us.  Well life get is the way and I was going on another path with my blog.  With in the last month I had a couple of people ask about the What is it Wednesday and how they enjoyed it.  So I will repost some of the older posting and do some new posting.  Let's travel back to simple time!

This week let go back to cleaning rugs with the old rug beater.  Once a week the rug where hung out and beaten to remove dust and dirt.  Spring and Fall the big heavy rugs where dragged from the house for a good beating.  What a great way of getting your anger out with out hurting anyone.  We need more rug beating today!  After a good beating the rugs where left out for a good airing in the sun.

In 1909 Fred Wardell, started the Eureka Vacuum cleaner company, in Detroit, Michigan.  I'm not sure of the exact date of the one I have, but have they come a long way.  The old vacuum does have attachment, but no HEPA filter.  I did plug this in once with dust going everywhere and a lot of noise.  In 1909 the vacuum was made in American, today they are made in China.  What will the next 100 years bring to cleaning rugs?

This Saturday is the Hog Roast at the market.  Make sure you come hungry for some great food and fun.  This is the best place to get some fresh produce, bread, eggs and more.  The cost for the hog roast is $9.50 a plate, with Garden Gate cooking the hog and Cheeky Monkey doing the side dishes.  I'm hungry already!

Please stop by and visit with the vendors and get to know them and their product.  Each offers something different and all are made in Michigan.  Say HI to John from Grassfields Cheese, and taste some of the wonderful cheese he brings to the market each week.  John drives down from Coopersville, Michigan bring with him cheese made from grass feed organic cows.  He brings many flavors for you to sample before your purchase.  Here is the web site and more information about Grassfields Cheese http://www.grassfieldscheese.com/

Then wonder over and talk with Jozef about his wooden bowls, rolling pins, and yarn spools.  Jozef does not have a web site or fan page on facebook, so make sure you spend some time with him.  He can tell you where and how he has found his wood, and how each piece is made.  A wonderful working piece of art.

The next vendor will not be here this week, but next week.  So remember to visit with Karen and Renee from Nahnees Nibbles.  The make dog food and dog cookies. Bring home a special treat for you dog.  They  rotate with Cookie Cutter Treats. Pamper the best family member with something from each of these great vendors.

Do you have someone moving into a new home?  Here is a great house warming gift, one of my baskets with a loaf of bread from Fostoria Bread Factory, they make some yummy sour dough bread.  If you know a head of time the colors they have you can order a basket to match their kitchen or dinning room, then add a loaf of bread and some spices from some of the other vendors.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!  I'm still taking orders for Easter Baskets in the colors of your choice.
