Welcome friends to another What is it Wednesday. Both of these are waffle iron. Different from what we are used to seeing today, and a lot heavier. The one on the left is from Stroluminum, Detroit. This company made aluminum pot and pans. The waffle iron on the right is by Rey-O-NOC from Chicago, Il. They start out in 1853 and sold the company to True Value Brand (True Value Hardware) in 1962. Rey-O-NOC also made hardware, tools, cutlery, paints and sporting goods. This waffle iron is very heavy, sold cast iron with a patent date of 1-1908. Waffle made with both would only be 6 1/2" across. So when you take your frozen waffles from the freezer and pop them in the toast, remember how they used to be made. We do have it a lot easier today!

No popping frozen waffles here. We still make them from scratch albeit using an electric waffle maker. I remember as a young girl using one similar to the round one to make pizzle waffle cookies on the stove each Christmas. Thanks for sharing.

I still make cookies at Christmas time with my old electric waffle iron. I would love to try pizzle waffle cookies, mine our a butter cinnamon cookie. Fun!
