Abe Lincoln

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich...strengthen the weak by weakening the strong...bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift...lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down...build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence...help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." -Abraham Lincoln

What is it Wednesday - June 6, 1944 - D Day

Sixty eight years ago the allied forces stormed the beaches on Normandy.  It began with air, land and sea dividing the beach into five areas, it was the biggest invasion of it kind.  There where troops from England, Canada and the US, plus few French troops that also helped out.  There is a ton of reading material on the days leading up to and past the landing date.  It was the turning point on the war, and helped end the war in Europe.

The movie Ike is a wonderful movie about the days leading up to D-Day.  Shows how they worried about the weather, Germany finding out about this operation, plus knowing that most of the men sent in would not return. There are other movies about World War II, but the movie Ike is just about the days before the landing.  If you have not seen it, add it to your movie list for those rainy days.
