Abe Lincoln

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich...strengthen the weak by weakening the strong...bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift...lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down...build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence...help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." -Abraham Lincoln

What is it Wednesday

Welcome to another what is it.  Today I have your basic water trough.  But this one has a story behind it.  Back in 1889 family A rent land to family B.  Family B could build a house, farm the land for 100 years, it was agreed  that when the 100 years where up family B could buy the land and have it for them self.  In 1889 no one had money to buy land, so a lot of farmers rented the land, hoping someday they would be the new owners of said land.  Forward to 1989, and both family knowing that the 100 year lease was up, and family B could now buy the land, but the head of the family was in a nursing home.  A unkind neighbor who we will call C, with his crocked lawyer, when to the nursing home, and told the lady that the 100 year lease was up.  Using the name from family B got her to sign the papers selling the land to him.  By the time both families found out what happen, it was to late, the title was now in the hand of neighbor C.  Sadly this could not be undone and both families working together tried very hard.  When family B had to move and had an auction, I was given this great watering trough.  No one wanted it, the bottom was gone.  So I have it, painted it up, added an old pump, some dirt and have planted flowers in it for 21 years.  Family B is happy that something old, waiting for the junk yard found a home. Family A help family B on the day of the auction, having everyone around showing support for family B.  Unkind neighbor C, has planted on his farm, but not much has grow on it!  He name is like mud, and family B moved on and are happy.  Still hoping that some how they still one day get to buy the family farm.  Unkind neighbor is paying the price for being unkind!  Have your neighbors lost their homes and farms?  Sadly a lot of this is still going on.

Aww, that's an awful thing to do to someone. You're right Rose, it still goes on today. If you were the helpful neighbor, then bless your heart. You've certainly gotten long lasting pleasure outta that old trough. It's beautiful:)
