“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich...strengthen the weak by weakening the strong...bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift...lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down...build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence...help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves." -Abraham Lincoln

The Old Winery Market for February 18, 2012

31505 Grand River Ave.
Farmington, MI
Open from 9AM to 2PM

This week is our book sale.  The market along with the library will share in the money being made from the sale of books.  While you are picking up your fresh produce you may find a good book to read later in the afternoon.  Nothing better then curling up with a book on a cold winter afternoon.

The market offers fresh produce, bread, eggs, meat, coffee, tea, milk, cheese and more.  While you are at the market please stop by and visit with these vendors and get to know them and their product.

When you walk in the door you will find Kim from UP Pasties.  For those who live outside of Michigan meat pasties started in the very upper part of Michigan (then part above the mitten).  The are a pie crust filled with meat and vegetables folded over.  The miners in the UP used to carry them in their lunch pails.  Plus Kim has  Chicken Pot Pies and Yooper Toast!  You will be so happy with them you will be back.  Come early because Kim sells out most weekends.  Here is Kims web site for information and where you will find her Pasties http://www.uppasties.com

Then stop by and meet one of my neighbors Marilyn from Chartreuse Organic Tea.  Located in Trenton, Michigan they offer herbal tea with no sugar, no caffeine or additives.  They have 12 blends of teas to pick from and have four to five for you to try each weekend.  Here is the web site for more information on the company and the benfits of drinking organic tea.  www.chartreuseltd.com

My other neighbor is Thomas Organic Creamery.  Each week they have organic milk, ice cream, and yogurt plus frozen yogurt.  Their milk and ice cream are very rich in flavor.  The milk comes from grass feed Jersey cows located in Henderson, MI.  Here is there web site for more information and where you can find them on the weekends and during the week www.thomasorganiccreamery.com

Rose, tell me what Yoopers toast is, I have never heard of this.I see it is bagged, does that mean it is similar to a chip?

Yooper are those who live north of the Big Mac Bridge, those of us who live south of the bridge are called trolls. Yooper toast is cold toast with butter and cinnamon on it and it is dipped in coffee.

Hi, Rose:
This is the most awesome market. I know I'd like the meat pasties and
Yooper toast is how I've been eating my toast forever! And I didn't know that, it's just that my toast always gets cold because I don't put down what I'm doing, and I always have a cup of coffee. I stopped dipping donuts cuz I'm too chubby!!
The doctor just reminded me the other day to eat organic yogurt.
Hugs,
Susan
