This Saturday is kids day at the market. Bring down the kids and have their face painted, visit with the balloon man. Talk with a firefighter and see a firetruck up close. Great day to be a kid or a kid at heart. Kids activity will be from 10 AM till noon.

The first is Jim LaLone from Moosecreek Metals. Jim works with metals and does custom work while his wife make some very pretty flowers from dishes.

Welcome to another Monday Merchant with the PAFA team. Hope you are all doing well today. Grab something to drink and spend some time with Barb from Heartstrokes. The name of her shop came about from her job has a cardiac nurse and painting. Barb loves to paint on black screen using acrylic paints, and her dad cuts her frames from old barn wood. Barb started off learning how to paint at a local craft store while her husband was deployed overseas. She has branched out into designing her own patterns and is now starting to sell them. Barbs paints for all seasons and holiday. You will also find some supplies in her shop for you to try your own painting on.

This Saturday is Pet day at the market. Due to the health codes no dogs or cats inside the market, but there will be vendors selling special treats for your cats and dogs. So stop out and pick up some special goodies for your pets. Also coming in in a few weeks will be a book sale. So clean up your bookcase and donate some books to help the local library out.

Jan has a big love for animals, and does give back to two animal protection shelters. Her needle felted dog is so real. If you love him you can order one to look like your dog or cat. Plus she knits, making stockings, scarfs and she does sell some yarn. Jan is also a teacher who shares with everyone around her.

The next shop is from Itasca, Illinois. Karen the owner of Find Old Things, love vintage and the hunt for each item. Lots of fun will be had this Saturday at the market. First George the Knife Sharpener will be back. Bring down your knifes, garden and wood working tools and bring them back to life. Also Destiny Catering will be doing cooking demo with the products found in the market. Are you looking for something new to fix for dinner then make sure you stop and see what their are fixing!

Stop over at the Garden Gate Booth and meet Neil and Jean Smith. Jean is our market master and makes the market at wonderful fun place to sell at. They run a small farm with their 5 children and sell organic produce, meat and eggs. Check out what they have in the freezer this week, or make sure to try their sausage of the month.

Also while you are at their booth check out the mixes that their daughter Taylor has made. Beside the mixes Taylor can be found cooking in the cafe and selling her wonderful baked goods. From pumpkin rolls, to muffins you will find something for your sweet tooth.

Now that I have you over by the cafe stop and say HI to Alex from the Cheeky Monkey Foods. Alex roast and grins his own coffee and makes and serves sandwiches. His wife Martha makes some wonderful scones, shortbread, muffins and cookies to take home and enjoy. All made from recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. They never use artificial colors, flavors or preservatives in their baked goods.

Please welcome out new team member Amy Rouse from Glass Paradox. Amy lives in Maine and paints on glass. She has been painting for 20 years, starting out at the kitchen table like most of us. Each piece is hand painted by her and she paints the entire piece. Her work not only can be found on Etsy but in galleries, boutique and small shops throughout the United States.

Next stop is over at Montezumamudd. Phyllis (our leader) comes from Colorado, and makes some amazing pottery. Each piece is hand thrown by her and becomes a functional piece of art. From pots to mugs and everything in between. Her sister Connie from Life Shades does the drawings for her decals that she uses. Phyllis uses some beautiful glazes on her pieces and you will enjoy them for years.

Dirtroad Team - Winoart and Grasslandknit

Well I have been very bad about not posting about my team members. Life around the holidays with orders was getting out of hand! But this has passed and we are on to a new year with a new beginning. So let me introduce you two of the new members on The Dirt Road Team. The first shop in Winoart, Jennifer is the talent artist who learned to draw at the age of 10 while visiting her Grandparents in South Dakota. With a gift of a book from her Grandfather she started drawing more and more. Once in school and taking architecture and advance art the rest is history. Her shop is filled with hand painted glasses, acrylic painting plus charcoal drawings. She paints just about everything from cowgirls to motorcycles. She is open to all suggestion and is always looking for something new to paint.

The next shop is Grasslandknit. Allison learned how to knit from her mother at age 16, but it took her another 11 years to understand the peace of knitting can bring having yarn run through your fingers. Beside knitting Allison is an environmental educator, teaching at an outdoor educational center in Northern Illinois and the Nature Conservancy. Plus she volunteers at the Nachusa Grasslands. Her favorites students are 4th graders! Old enough to understand and ask questions, but not to old to cause trouble.

If you are in downtown Farmington, Michigan on Saturday December 17, 2011 between 9AM and 2 PM make sure and stop at The Old Winery Market, located at 31505 Grand River. Parking is on the east side of the building and enter the market in the front of the building. First thing first stop by the cafe for some breakfast and coffee with Alex and Taylor. If you are shopping later in the day how about lunch! They will be serving sandwiches, salads and soup.

Then do some shopping with one of the many vendors who offer food and locally made art and crafts.

You will find coffee, dog cookies, bird treats, soap, fresh baked bread, spices, eggs, meat and a lot more all under one roof, plus lunch or breakfast. See you all tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the opening day for the Old Winery Farmers Market. Located on Grand River between Power Road and Orchard lake Road in Farmington, Michigan. There will be around 37 vendors selling food of all kinds and art for your shopping enjoyment. Watch as broom are being made with 100 year old machines with crazy handles. Check out the shelves filled with made in Michigan products. Do you have a loved one living outside of Michigan, this would make a wonderful gift or care package for them. Looking forward to putting a care package together and shipping to my son and daughter in law deployed in the Middle East. The market will open up at 9 with breakfast and lunch being served during the day along with coffee and other wonderful goodies. Great place to visit with family and friends all while supporting Michigan growers and small businesses.

Holly Days this weekend in Downtown Farmington, Michigan. Located in Riley Park (Farmer Market) on Grand River between Farmington Road and Power Rd.

Lot of fun things to do this weekend in Farmington, Michigan. First the man of the hour Santa will be at the market from noon till 4 on Saturday. Get a family picture taken for free with Santa. Shop for your greens and gift giving. Watch the students from Oakland Community Collage demonstrate ice carving starting at 10 o'clock. Listen to the Salvation Army Bank playing from 12 till 3, or the carolers walking around singing.

Enjoy the movie Polar Express for free at the Farmington Civic Theater at 10 or 1 on Saturday.

Farmington Farm and Artisan Market - November 19

This Saturday November 19 will be the last day of the Farmington Farm and Artisan Market. Come down for your produce for your Thanksgiving Day Dinner and shop for Christmas with the many artisan. Tina's Coney Island will at the market serving hot dogs and chili. Early in the morning the Broken Yoke Cafe will be cooking egg sandwiches. So stop out for breakfast or lunch while you are shopping. Welcome friends! It has been a long time since I have done a post for the Dirtroad Team. I have been very busy with basket orders and re cane a rocker for a lady. The rocker was her great grandmothers, so this was one project you did not rush on. So enough about me and please visit our new members. Pamela from Wild Lilac Design she is out newest member to join the team. Her creativity has been in sewing, painting, pottery and the latest is jewelry. She says her creativity goes in cycles. That is the best part of being creative it just flows from one form to another. Check her shop announcement for specials that she is offering. Enjoy looking at her wonderful lampwork beads and chainmaille work.

The next shop is also a new member. Come and met Carol from Crafty PA. This creative lady uses what is around her to make her art. Her quill aluminum cans are turned into snowflakes, sun catchers, and picture frames. Her rugs are made from recycled plastic bags. She even has one that looks like a sock monkey! They can be used indoors or out, and the best part they can be washed with the hose. You can wash them in the machining machine, but I like the idea of using the hose in the summer!

Farmington Farmer and Artisan Market - November 12

This Saturday the Farmington Farmer and Artisan Market will be open from 9 till 2. Located on Grand River between Farmington Road and Grove St. in downtown Farmington, Michigan. Stop out for fresh produce for your Thanksgiving Dinner and do a little Christmas Shopping. With 37 vendors you will find lots of goodies to take home with you. Next Saturday will be the last day the market will be open, so make sure to stop out for some family fun. The market will return the first Saturday in December for Holly Days. Santa will be at the market to listen to all good boys and girls. So mark that date on your calendar. Then on Saturday December 10 the Farmer and Artisan Market will move indoors at the old power plant on Grand River. About 1 1/2 miles east of the summer market. I will be listing all the fun family things planed for the winter market soon. See you all tomorrow the weather is going to be great this weekend, so lets enjoy it before the snow shows up!

Today is Veteran Day, please honor those who have protected our freedom this 11th month, 11th day, at the 11th hour. I have many in my family who have served, but his year I need to give a big shout out to my kids. Two are in Afghanistan serving, and one is out of the service and going to school. All three are outstanding kids, and it sadden me that they can give up their life for the ones on Wall Street. The picture of the Wall Street gang going to the bathroom on the American Flag (sorry) is just beyond words! But my heart and prayers are for those serving or have served - THANK YOU! There are more good people out there then evil.

Halloween Fun can be found all weekend, in and around Michigan. First at the Farmington Farmers and Artisan Market on Saturday, located on Grand River between Farmington Rd and Grove St. The market is open from 9 am till 2 pm. Starting at 10 there will be face painting, decorate a pumpkin. At 11 am there will be gourd tossing! Music will be Larry Arbour and cider will be from the RB Miller Farm. Great day to spend with family, have some fun, while shopping with your local farmer and artisan. Start or continue your holiday shopping with some wonderful hand made goodies you will find at the market.

Then on Sunday The Sunday Artisan Market in Ann Arbor, located in the Kerrytown Area, will also have some Halloween Fun. Come down and decorate a pumpkin, scavenger hunt, a custom parade with trick and treating. Great time to meet the artist and their work. Bring your Christmas listing and get some ideas, or start your shopping.

Both areas will be a lot of fun, plus you are supporting your local artist, and farmers. See you this weekend at one of the markets.

Monday Made in Michigan with Sew Enchanted and The Grand Crayonyon

Welcome friends as October slips away from us. For those of us in Michigan we have had some wonderful fall weather, ok not all weekends have been wonderful. Please sit back and visit some great shops and artist from the great state of Michigan. The first shop is Sew Enchanted. Mercedes is a wonderful clay artist who has a love for mushrooms and fairy's. You will find whimsical fairy house, robots and some beaded bell earrings. A delight for young and old. Do you have someone on your list this holiday season who is into fairy's, then this is the shop for you to visit.

The next shop is Grand Crayonyon. Matt and Colleen are new to Etsy, but have a very unique art form. They work with crayons and stencils. By melting the crayons and letting them run down the stencil they have a one of kind art form. This would make a wonderful gift for both male and females, from young to old. Very different, and very affordable. I can see this hanging in a child's room, or a art studio. Who does not love to play with crayons and make art? You will enjoy your visit with them and there art.

You can shop all the shops from Michigan on Etsy, by shopping local. Many shops do custom work and will love to work with you. Just remember to leave enough time for them to make you something and for it to be shipped by Christmas.

Farmington Farmers & Artisans Marker 10-8-2011

Hope to see everyone tomorrow at the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market, located on Grand River Avenue, between Farmington Road and Powers Road, in Downtown Farmington, Michigan. The market will be open from 9 till 2:00Pm. The weather is going to be great this weekend so plan on coming out for your pumpkin, apple cider, plus your other fresh vegetables, and fruit. Remember you can get fresh meat, eggs, and milk. This is the weekend to drop off your scarecrow, judging will be next weekend, and the winner will be announced on October 22. This week Chef Michael Christy from the Huron River Hunting and Fishing Club will be cooking Mozzerella Brushetta. Music will be by Bob Monteleone. Enjoy some great fall weather with your family and friends.

Some upcoming events on Saturday October 15, 2011 bring in your best apple pie and enter to win a prize. Watching the judging on the scarecrows, and enjoy the day with your family and friends.

Please come and check the two shops that I'm featuring today from the Dirtroad Team. Both come from a small town and are very far a part not only in where they live but in their art. The first shop is North to Alaska, where Debra and her husband live on a boat, in Kodiak, Alaska. Debra has gone from being a conductor in a large church to bus driver, and from stain glass to beads. Some things have to change when you decide to live on a boat. Because her stain glass would not fit on the boat, she has found the world of beading. Her wonderful bead work can be found in bookmakers, match box covers, key fobs, cuffs and more. You will also find some patterns if you would like to try the art of beading yourself. How fun would it be just to spend a little time living on a boat up in Alaska!The next shop is in Woodstock, Virginia, called PW Originals. Pam has turn her life love of sewing and fabric into making some wonderful, and one of kind items. She has the knowledge of knowing which fabric will drape or can be pleated correctly. You will find wonderful pillows to add to your sofa, couch, bed, wristlet, scarves, and shoulder bags. I have one of her wristlets and love it. Her bright and cheerful pincushions will make a wonderful addition to your sewing or craft room. Grab something to drink and come with me to visit two wonderful shops here in Michigan. The first shop is Hip To Piece Square. Share the shop owner calls her sewing machine her best friend. Once you step into her on line shop you will see why. It is filled with beautiful Kimono House shoes, pouches for art and sewing supplies. Plus mini quilts and journals for quilting.

The next shop is BarbaraPortraits, Barb is a self taught artist who has 15 years drawing people, pets and homes. Her Etsy shop not only carries some of her drawings, but is fill with ornaments for each holiday. She has hand painted each one and added just the right amount of glitter. You will also find some unpainted so you can add your owe artist touch to them. They are all handmade with gypsum stone for many years of use.

There are many more amazing and talented artist on Etsy and many from Michigan. Have fun shopping in the mitten state.

Saying Good Bye

Late last night I received my last phone from them in the US. The next phone call will be from Afghanistan. Where they will be station is still unknown to me. This is my 5th and 6th deployment and it is still not easy to say good bye. You understand the process of what is going on, but not the why. Please keep them in your prayers for a safe return sometime next October.

Harvest Happening at Farmington Farmers and Artisan Market

It is Harvest Time at the Farmington Farmers and Artisan Market. Open on Saturday 10-1-2011 from 9-2:00 PM, located on Grand River between Farmington Road and Powers Rd. This week not only will you still find fresh fruit and vegetables, there will be eggs, bread, meat, pumpkins, apple cider, milk and more. Chef Jason from the Claddagh Irish Pub will be doing a Demo on cooking Braised Short Ribs, music by Sheila Landis and Rick Matle. Bring the kids for face painting from 11 - 1:00. Sign up the the Scarecrow contest, all Scarecrows are due by October 8, 2011. Farmington fit will be doing demo on Tai Chi and exercises for older adults. Fun times will be had by all, all day long. Table and chairs will be in the park for a quick snack, or lunch. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Dirtroad Team - Mountain Home Pottery and Mudd Puppy Pottery

Yes today I have two pottery artist from the Dirtroad Team. Even though they both work with clay each has there own look and style to their pottery. The first shop is Mountain Home Pottery. Liz comes from Mountain Home, Arkansas and uses a wheel to throw her clay on and makes mugs, plates and more. Some of her dishes have leaves or a design made from a piece of a vintage dolly. The clay and the glazes give each piece a different and unique look. No two match and have there own characteristics and a wonderful piece of art to own.

The next shop Mudd Puppy Pottery is from Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. Debbie pottery is made from ceramic clay and is turned into skull, castle and dragon mugs. Take a minute to check out the egg shakers, they are a musical instrument that can be play. If you can not play them they would look so cool sitting on a dish or in a bowl. They you will find Ocarinas that are a ancient vessel flute, that can also be played. They come with some music sheets and directions on how to play them.

I have a prayer request. There's a lady I've known forever. She's very sick. On top of that, she's being abused by those she has given everything to. Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides. Just breaks my heart. Seems there's nothing I can do alone. But maybe, if we join in andlift her up together we can heal her. She's well over 200 years old, but way too young to die. Her name is America ... and I love her. And please keep in mind that when you say the pledge and put your hand over your heart or wear a flag pin on your lapel that you are showing pride in your country and not "Taking Sides" - - what would this world look like if all those who lie at rest, under all the crosses across the world, had refused to "Take Sides".

I love to read the Hickory Holler Farm Blog. The can quilted as she calls herself is an amazing women. Not only can she garden, cook and make quilts she is filled with wisdom She posted this receipt about a month ago and tonight we tried it. If you love stuffed cabbage rolls and have no time to make them, this is a wonder quick way to get your fix! I would love to try this in a crock pot for those days when you are out cleaning leaves and putting away the patio furniture. Hello friends! I have two more amazing shops for you to visit from the Dirtroad Team on Etsy. The first shop is Molten Art Studio. Johnnie is an artist who uses pigmented beeswax along with acrylic, water color, pen and ink to create one of kind pieces of art. Her talent includes and not limited to miniature painting, trading cards, prints and keepsake boxes. Johnnie is also a member of the Artist 4 Animals Team and gives 10% of her sales to akitas.org. Not only do you get some wonderful art, but also helping a great organization.

Wedding, camouflage shoes and hand grenades!

This last Saturday my niece was married to a wonderful man. This was a very small wedding on a very small budget. Everything was wonderful, after having lots and lots of rain, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Her brother had the honor of giving her away. The bride purchased her dress from a second had store, it was new with the price tag still on it! She made her bouquet of flower and those of her bridesmaids, she also made the boutonnières for all the grooms men She also designed and made all the center pieces for the table! Now on to the fun part of the wedding. My dad used to tell her that if and when she got married he would see her marching down the aisle with combat boots on carrying hand grenades (being the only granddaughter she was used to being around her brother and boy cousins). So to honor her grandfather who was watching from heaven above she found camouflage shoes (the closes she could to find to combat boots) and had two (toy) hand grenade sewn to her garter! My dad would have love this to know end. Many family pieces where used from her great great grandmothers bible, to grandmothers bracelet. The cake server was also her grandmothers. The flower girl also wore a set of pearls from her great grandmother. This wedding had it all something new, something old, something blue and something borrowed. My parents and sister where watching from above in heaven and having their own good times. From tomboy to a beautiful bride!

My spilt second brush of fame with HGTV

Last week HGTV house hunter show was all about a lady buying a house in Farmington, Michigan. Well last year HGTV and the lady who is purchasing this house came down to the Farmers and Artisan Market, in down town Farmington. Now when you go to watch this video you have to watch the count down clock and when the clock gets to -20.42 hit the pause button. You can see my lovely back side in the lower right hand corner. The gentlemen I'm talking to is one of the vendor husbands. You can see the rack I use for my quilts, plus some of my baskets. Talk about a surprise that I made the final cut (even if it is for 2/100th of a second). This made my day, plus the lady who came down to the market to tell me is in a wheel chair. Some people are just real special to know. So enjoy the show and seeing where I set up and sell on Saturdays.

Mel is an amazing photographer who turns her wonderful photo's into kaleidoscopes. She then makes paperweights, trivets, coaster and note cards out of them. You can also purchase a wonderful photo of the great outdoors and some of the kaleidoscopes come matted, framed and ready to hang on a wall. The colors are just amazing in her work! You will be very happy that you stop at her shop for a visit.

The next shop comes from New York. Michelle lives on a farm called Crystal Spring Farm and her Etsy shop is ML Danforth Studio. Beside raising sheep and sell wool, she is a photographer and artist. You will find custom portraits in her Etsy shop. They can be done in graphite, oil, water colors, or acrylic. You will need to send her a couple of good picture with good lighting so she can make you a custom piece of your favorite person or dog. If this is something you would like to give has a Christmas gift please order early. It does take between 2 - 4 weeks to finish, plus drying time. So order early and give a gift that will give a lifetime of enjoyment.

Young fairies enjoy fairy art. They where drawing fairy doors, making fairy wands, and fairy masks. Glitter and glue was in high demand for their master pieces.

After all the art works was finished up, they continued to have fun with fairy games. It was wonderful to see children enjoy their imaginations both with art and games. From handmade wings to wings bought at a store memories where made by a lot of young ladies!

The first time since 2005

This is why I have not done a lot of blogging lately. Beside getting ready for a Art show. I was going to have my family all in one place, for one weekend. We had a great weekend! My niece is getting married so I hosted a small shower for her, while the guys either hung out or went golfing. On Sunday we all meet at The Waltz Inn, in Waltz MI. Very small town and this place is filled with charm, plus great food. It was wonderful to have everyone in one place for a couple of hours. My son and daughter in law will be leaving for Afghanistan in a few weeks. My other son goes to school and has the chance to go to France next year to study. My niece lives on the other side of the state, and my nephew might be moving. So before the wind could blow us around the world we had a few moment together as family. My goal is to have all of us in one time zone in the year 2013.

This morning while taking a break and enjoy some more coffee, I had two friends walk up the neighbors drive way and visit. These two where not afraid of me opening the door to take their picture. The first one is through the screen, and the rest I was able to walk out on the deck. After having a snack on some leaves they walk away happy. I loved having some company with my coffee this morning. Wonder if they will come back and visit again.

A redo on a old chair

I love the way the rocking chair turned out. The couple who own this rocking did not want me to strip the finish off, just clean it up and redo the seat. This great old chair belonged to his grandmother and has been sitting in the garage for years. From trash to treasury!

Welcome friends, it is good to be back from vacation. While you are inside staying cool check out the shops I have found for you today. The first shops is Homeschool Hats. Joni a busy mother of 3, who home schools her children. In her free time she makes some wonderful knitted and crochet hats, cowls, and finger less gloves. It maybe very hot outside but cold weather will be here before you know it. Everything would make a great stocking stuffier.

The next shop is Into the Tress. Janet is a self taught artist who makes fun art from palm frond wood. Each palm is a one of kind art piece. Her fish are so real looking and the masks are so much fun to look at. Besides painting on tree palms she also makes soap and has a vintage store on Etsy. All are great shops to spend some time in.

I had the chance to visit Pioneer Loft again and bring Denise some more baskets. Her shop is better then before. If you have time this summer drive over and visit Denise and her amazing shop. It is a lot better in person then my old camera. This time the Amish where out cutting hay with horse and wagon, and driving all around with their horse and buggy's. Drive carefully and feel the blood pressure lower in your body. Both trips have been wonderful and I'm looking forward to a visit soon. Maybe this time I can do some weaving for everyone to watch! Great fun will be found at the Farmington Artiisan and Farm Market on Sauturday July2, 2011. From 9 till 2 you will find fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, eggs, milk, cheese, meat. Plus soap, flowers, art work for your home or gift giving. Lil Sprouts will be back for the little ones to have some fun at while you shop. Potter's field (country) will be back for their second appearance at the market. Chief Donovan from Grand Celebration will be making a fruit salad. All this fun for Saturday then on Sunday at The Sunday Artisan Market in Ann Arbor (Kerrytown section) and Zingerman's will be hosting Camp Bacon. If you love the smell and taste of good bacon this is the palace to be on Sunday. This is a fund raiser for the Washtenaw 4 H clubs. The artisan market will be open from 11 till 4 and camp bacon will run from 11 till 2. Come hungry both days and leave happy. Zingerman's is asking for a donation to the food part of the market. After you have visited the market the Hands on Museum is two block from all of this fun. Great day to spend in Ann Arbor and with your family. Looking for to seeing everyone over the weekend.

Welcome friends! We are coming to the end of another month. The time is flying by fast. I have two more amazing shops from the Dirtroad Team for you to visit today. The first is Natasha from Greenhouse Glassworks. Living in Colorado her studio is attached to a greenhouse. Beside wonderful natural light the greenhouse keeps her in tomatoes and herbs all winter. Natasha is a stain glass artists, plus works with fused glass. You will find plates, necklaces, and candle holders. Plus she has a wonderful line of paper tags.

The next shop is from a group of artist living in Texas. This shop called Hake Design is filled with jewelry, jewelry boxes, glass ware, and handmade picture frames. This is shop is still new to Etsy so stop by and show some love.

Below is how to make Pancake Mix. Very easy and saves a lot of money.

Pancake Mix

12 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup sugar

4 cups milk powder

2 tablespoons salt

3/4 cup baking powder

Mix together well all of the above ingredients and store the mixture in a tightly sealed container.

To Make Pancakes

To make pancakes combine the following ingredients.

1 1/2 cups of the pancake mix

1 egg, beaten

1 cup water

2 tablespoons salad oil

Mix together and cook on a hot griddle, serve with butter and homemade syrup.

Tomorrow will be a good day at the Farmington Farm Market. Chef Thung Huynh will be sharing recipes. The Little Sprouts Corner is back and will be making bubble wands. Chris McCall will be performing. She is singer song writer who will be playing original songs. She has played at the market before and is a delight to listen to! Paula Kraus will be teaching herbs, growing and using. Strawberries are in season, and you will also find fresh milk, meat, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, fresh baked bread, pies and other goodies. Something for everyone to enjoy. Plus amazing works of art. The market is open from 9 till 2 in the afternoon. Yes 36 years ago I said I do, and I would do it again. Boy was I thin! I made my dess out of eyelet fabric, all cotton. On our wedding day the temps where in the 90 with a full Catholic mass. My dress was nice and cool. The pearls that I'm wearing belonged to my Grandmother Addison. Later on we had everyone over at my mom and dads for good food, fun and a lot of laughs. So many that enjoyed our day are gone from earth but not in our hearts. I think we might make it to 50! Then we can have another party!

Put down a couple of layers of newspaper, then add grass clipping on top of the newspapers. The newspaper act as a weed blocker, and the grass clipping will break down adding organic matter back into the soil. This system also keeps the moisture in the soil, saving time and money on watering. Do not use the color ads, just the black and white printed pages. At the end of the gardening season just work the whole thing back into your garden with a rototiller. You can also add the fall leaves, and clean up in the spring. I will be at the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market tomorrow. Located in Riley Park, across from Starbucks, in downtown Farmington, MI. Beside finding great food, including bread, fruit, vegetables, art work, you will have music by Dan Goree, and the chef from the Leather Bottle will be doing a cooking demo. Our balloon man is back this Saturday along with The Little Sprouts area, doing a craft project. Bring the kids they can do a craft project while you shop. The first shop is From Victory Road. Living in a 100 year hold farmhouse in rural Kansas, this couple gets their creative journey through faith and life. The next shop from the Dirtroad Team is EcoCessory. Krystine makes wonderful scarves, headband, and hair clips all from organic cotton, soy and bamboo. After finding out one of her children was allergic to petroleum, and that items marked all natural may still contain some petroleum by products, she was off looking for materials that would not bother in child. She has done a great job of find yarns that are soft, silky and long lasting. This may be June but one of her amazing scarves would add to your fall or winter wardrobe. Happy Birthday US Army and National Flag Day

Happy Birthday to the US Army, you are 236 years old. First adopted by Congress on June 14, 1775, to form "The Continental Army". You have won our freedom and have keep us free and safe. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you to my three kids that have or are serving in the US Army. I'm very proud of you and what you have done.

June 14 is also flag day. First start in a Wisconsin public school class room, the teacher wanted his students to remember the day the US adopted the first flag by Bess Ross. New York states was the first states to honor 6-14 has flag day. President Wilson signed a proclamation on May 30, 1916 making 6-14 Flag Day. President Truman sign a Act of Congress making June 14 National Flag Day. Great day to be an American. Fly your flag and pray for our military.

Welcome friends, are you enjoying some very hot weather! Grab something cool to drink and come and visit with the two shops I'm featuring today from the Dirtroad Team. The first shop is Dixiedreams. Robin living in Kodiak Alaska, has all of Alaska wild live to photograph. Robin spends a lot of time looking for bears, eagles and more to take pictures of. Her patience has paid off with her wonderful photos. Beside the wild life, she has wonderful military, and flowers all from Alaska. If you always wanted to vacation in Alaska and can not find the time, here is a mini vacation for you all in this shop. Robin and her husband are both retired from the Army and enjoy living on the island of Kodiak.

The next shop is Donnalda. Donna lives in the dessert of California, far cry from Robin living in Alaska. Donna uses her life experiences in her art work. Retired now but she has done a lot of interesting jobs in her life and they are reflected in her art. You will find handmade journals, booklets, card and wonderful letters to download for your art projects. Add some charm to your scrap booking with her letters. Both shops like the others on the Dirtroad team are in small towns and cover a wide range of art. They say any prayer for those who made it home and continue to build this great country. Their are only a few WWII vets left, and we need to give them all the thanks we can for our freedom. Dirtroad Team - Four Winds Farm & Design by Baerrels

Welcome friends! Summer is here at last!!!! Please stop by and welcome Four Winds Farm to the Dirt Road Team. Jan is our newest member to join us. Living in Main and raising sheep, she turns her wool into wool felted animals. Jan's animals are life like, from cows to dogs. You will also fine a wool wash cloth that has a bar of soap in it and a wool knit Christmas stocking. The wool she uses has no dye added, just the natural color of the wool. We are so happy that she has joined us!

The next shop is Designs by Baerrels. This shop is a family that can work together. They work in wood, glass, paint, photography, metal, clay and more. You will find their items on Etsy or at the Cherokee National Forest show room. Their Etsy shop holds photo's, pocket mirrors, hair forks, puzzle boxes, treenware and much much more. Baerrels have been blessed by working at their art for forty years, and here is to forty more wonderful years.

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It was first observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers where place on the graves of the Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. New York was the first state to recognize this holiday, with the rest of the Northern States following. It was not until World War ! the the Southern states, stated to recognize this holiday. In 1922 VFW post started selling red poppies. 1950 soldiers started placing flag on the gravies of soldiers. Starting in 1998 on the Saturday before Memorial Day, Boy Scouts, started placing the flags on the graves. In 2000 we have been asked to stop for a moment at 3:00 to remember what this day is about, because to many have forgotten, so sad, that many still have no idea.. Please stop and remember those who have given their lives for our freedom, then those who have worn or are wearing the uniform, so we may keep our freedom. Please remember those who have given it all for our freedom.

Welcome friends! May is coming to a close and summer actives will be the normal way of life. Please say a quick prayer for those who have been hit with some of storms that have marched across our great country this last month. Then take a few minutes to visit two more wonderful shops from the Dirtroad Team on Etsy. The first shop is Coffee House Suds. Starting in 2001 making soap and sell at local shows, she is now gone global with the internet. If you are in Mobile, AL you will find her at the Mobile Market most weekends. All soap is made with the cold process method, using essential oils. Having sensitive skin if the soap irritates her skin she will not sell it. You will also find laundry soap and lip balm in her shop.

The next shop is Cottontail Quilts. Cindi learned the art of quilting from her Grandmother over 30 years ago. Cindi's quilts are works of art, each being hand quilted. All made to last a life time and to be pasted on to the next generation. Living in a log cabin with her studio over looking the woods, her ever changing view with Michigan four season must be wonderful to work in. Besides quilts for your bed, you will find mini quilts, bags, kids wear, fiber art and many more items to look at. It is a real treat to visit Cindi's shop and her wonderful art!

Michigan Shops - Bead Bug and The Hickory Tree

Welcome friends, summer is almost here in Michigan. Before you run outside to play in the warm weather stop by the two great shops from Michigan I found for you today. The first shop in Bead Bug, where Judy makes jewelry from large to very tiny beads. You will find earrings, necklaces, made from beads and polymer clay. Check out the small basket filled with autumn finds made from tiny beads. The work and time that goes into her work is amazing. Judy also sit across from me at The Sunday Artist Market in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The next shop is The Hickory Tree. This amazing artist makes buttons, tags, all from tree branches. If you need some unique buttons for a sweater or jacket check out this shop. The cedar tags would be wonderful to hang in your closet this fall to keep bug at bay during the winter. No trees are harmed in the making of the buttons or tags all are recycled from fallen branches. Love it!

This New Hampshire artist work in oils, but also has interest in other media. Her amazing shop is filled with fabric collage, note cards, mini art quilts, to her oil paintings. From landscapes to flower she has it all. Great shop to spend sometime in.

The next shop is Candy Quotient Jewelry. This artist has found the art of lampwork bead making, and combines her lampwork with vintage bead for some wonderful jewelry pieces. Love the bead fan pull, great idea for those of us who are to short to reach the pull.

Welcome friends. We are getting more rain here in S.E.Michigan again. The weather was hot and humid on Friday then back to being cold. The good news is I have found two more great shops from Michigan for you to check out. The first is Benn Boo Creations, this amazing shop is filled with all things paper. You will find tags, cards and albums. Plus handmade flowers and ribbons to use in your scrap booking projects or for crafting. Then check out the vintage items she has to offer. Great shop to add to your favorites.

The next shop is The Violinlist. This retired grandmother teaches violin and piano her her home, plus makes some wonderful machine embroidery designs for you to use. You can add these to your sewing project or put a collection together in a quilt. She does a have a quilted wall hanging for sale, showing deer in each of Michigan four seasons. Machine embroidery is something she dissolved a few year ago. In reading her profile her and I have both stitch our embroidery and hoops to our clothes. Happy to find out I'm not the only one who did this! Show some love to this undiscovered shop from Michigan, and enjoy her beautiful work!

Welcome friends and to spring. We are finely starting to get some wonderful spring weather and enjoying being outside. Please take a few minutes and visit the two wonderful shop I have for you today. Both artist are self taught amazing artists. The first is Bella Cosa Art, found in Big Sky Country. Deana is a busy mom of three who keeps her shops filled with original fine art, recycled goods, cards, jewelry and more. From hand painted spoons to abstract painting she has it all.

The next shop is from Northeast Georgia, called Big Fat Art Barn. Sherry is also a self taught artist. Beside painting she does mosaics, and children's portraits. What a wonderful gift for a mom anytime of the year. When she is not painting she is running a small farm. Sadly her farm was hit by a tornado a few weeks ago. Please stop by her shop and show some love to her and her art. She was blessed that no one was hurt, but having your home and farm moved around by mother nature can be a bit much!

Welcome friends! I have two more wonderful shop from the great state of Michigan. The first shop is Willow Street Gifts, where Maria makes jewelry. Some of the wonderful items she makes are from vintage finds, necklaces from copper, and more. Maria loves to work with glass, crystals, leather, polymer clay, and more. Beside makes jewelry she loves to cook, garden, and working with altered art.

The next shop is Relic Soap Company. Karen makes natural artisan soap, that smells wonderful. If you are not washing with them, they do scent a room nicely. My favorite is the lavender mint, but her bug soap is great to wash with in the summer time to help keep the bugs away from you. No need to use bug spray and the smell is not bad! I sell with Karen and her husband at the Farmington Farm Market, that is opening this Saturday. If you are around Farmington stop by and visit and get to smell first hand her soaps.
